Project Engineer and Designer – Kongsberg

Introduction

Location: Kongsberg
Duration: ASAP – 6 months, with possible extension

Function

  • Define hardware requirements in collaboration with system, drive train and battery managements system architects and developers.
  • Design and develop motor drive and battery management circuits, PCBAs and modules including selection of components, drawing schematics, PCB layout and building of prototypes
  • Conduct functional verification of motor drive and battery managements system circuits, PCBAs, sub-assemblies and electrical actuators
  • Collaborate with systems architects, mechanical designers, PCB layout, manufacturing, reliability, and SW engineering teams to design and develop power electronics products
  • Create test procedures and write test reports on functional, environmental, and system operation mode and manufacturing testing of full custom power electronic designs.

You have competence within multiple of the areas below:

  • Analog electronics, including discrete design with Opamps, transistors, inductors, transformers and capacitors for high voltage designs.
  • Component selection of high voltage power semiconductors (IGBTs, MOSFETs, diodes), for design of gate drives and analog/digital measurement circuits
  • Power electronics design of different topologies either in the AC or DC domain for motor controllers, battery management circuits, power supplies and switches.
  • Schematic design and PCB Layout ECAD tools like Altium Designer or other equivalent tools.
  • Knowledge in motor drive and battery control topologies and semiconductor component performance and loss mechanisms
  • Experience in use of lab instruments like Oscilloscopes, Network analyzers, Signal Generators, programmable loads, motor and battery simulators
  • Experience in PCB layout for optimum component placement for reduced stray inductance/capacitance and improved manufacturability and EMC compliance.
  • Knowledge in control algorithms and experience with embedded programming, for verification of circuit designs 
  • Experience with power electronics design optimizing for DFX requirements (manufacturability and testability)
  • Knowledge in the EMC requirements and CE certification relevant to the design of motor controllers in control system applications.

Requirements

You are meant for this job if:

  • BSc, MSc or PhD in electronics, automation, cybernetics, or similar engineering
  • Industrial experience for 3-5 years of relevant power electronics development and industrialization.
  • Capable of structural approach to solve complex problems
  • Open-minded, speak professional English, and adaptable for working in multicultural environment
  • Continuously raising standards, innovative and solution oriented.
  • Having interest in electronics is an additional advantage
