Construction Leader – Offshore Platform – Offshore Gabon

Function

We are seeking a highly experienced and adaptable Construction Manager to lead the offshore construction and reinforcement efforts of an existing drilling platform located off the coast of Gabon. This role is integral to the safe, timely, and budget-conscious delivery of platform reinforcement and modular extension works being developed across US (Texas), Canada (Alberta) and Gabon.

Knowledge of sweetening equipment for sour gas wells is advantageous in a Brownfield environment. The ideal candidate will bring a strong track record in offshore construction, excellent problem-solving ability, and the interpersonal skills required to lead diverse, multicultural teams.  (Note:   Structural modifications to platform, including deck extensions  will be first three months of scope, followed by skid installs, supports and ICP installs, and participation in mechanical commissioning.)

The Construction Manager will be responsible for coordinating multidisciplinary activities, supervising diverse local crews, and ensuring effective communication across international engineering and fabrication teams. This is a rotational position (30 days on / 30 days off) requiring strong leadership, cross-cultural fluency, and field-proven problem-solving expertise in offshore environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee the installation, reinforcement, and expansion works on the offshore platform.
  • Coordinate marine logistics, crane operations, welding, modular lifts, scaffolding, and mechanical/electrical tie-ins.
  • Monitor offshore construction quality and schedule, ensuring adherence to specifications and HSE standards.
  • Participate in planning, fabrication, construction, pre-commissioning, commissioning, PSSR and Handoff to Ops.
  • Interface daily with:
    – Canadian engineering teams (Alberta-based) overseeing module design.
    – US engineering team (Texas-based) overseeing structural scope.
    – Fabrication yards in Gabon and Canada for delivery and installation sequencing.  (likely just Gabon).
  • Participate in constructability reviews and planning meetings across continents.
  • Supervise and motivate diverse local Gabonese and expat workforce.
  • Ensure appropriate training, safety orientation, and cultural sensitivity among crews.
  • Provide field leadership to mitigate conflicts, support learning, and promote collaboration.
  • Take ownership of on-site technical and logistical challenges.
  • Collaborate with engineers, welders, riggers, and marine operators to resolve bottlenecks.
  • Adapt plans in real-time to account for weather, equipment delays, or personnel issues.
  • Constructability support from conceptual design through execution when possible;
  • Effective construction management leadership to the entire project team;
  • Ensure personnel and tools are in place so that projects are executed safely with no harm to the environment;
  • Identify, analyze, understand, manage and communicate risks to all members of the Construction and Engineering Teams;
  • Assure influential and accountable safety management and field regulatory compliance;
  • Assure/provide effective field communications and coordination with variety of functional operating departments;
  • Accountable to assist with work scope change decision
  • Assure prudent and diligent site/project materials management
  • Coach, mentor, train, and develop direct reports.
  • Provide input to Project Controls reports as required;
  • Develop a construction execution plan (Workpacks) for the area of the project involved in;
  • Lead / Facilitate construction kick off meetings with all contractors and internal stakeholders ensuring proper exchange of information and documented safety orientation;
  • Assure implementation of construction management processes and procedures including specifications, inspection procedures, quality assurance program, materials management program, EH&S requirements
  • Review final construction hand-over documentation prior to submitting for permanent records retention;
  • Ensure proper field document management system is followed with daily report filing as well as project construction records
  • Provide and/or assure prudent and diligent daily direction and supervision of  other field resources supporting construction management of project;
  • Assure Q.A/Q.C including inspection, daily safety and environmental management, as built and field records management;
  • Ensure construction deficiency lists are generated and maintained by inspectors making sure deficiency items are followed-up to completion and prior to contractor demobilizing from site.

Requirements

 Qualifications & Skills

  • Degree or Diploma in Construction Management, Civil/Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Offshore safety training certifications (e.g., BOSIET, HUET, H2S Alive) required.
  • Valid Passport and ability to travel/rotate internationally.
  • 10+ years of offshore construction experience with heavy structural modifications.
  • Strong preference for candidates with Gulf of Mexico or Africa platform experience.
  • Familiarity with fabrication and engineering in both Alberta, Texas, and African coastal contexts is a major asset.
  • Experience supervising cross-cultural, multilingual crews with varied skill levels.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills in dynamic and high-pressure offshore environments.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication across stakeholders at all levels.
  • Highly organized with proven ability to manage schedules, resources, and safety standards.
  • Comfortable working with project management tools, digital reporting, and field documentation systems.
